WZ Non-Confrontational Interview & Interrogation (20-21 Mar 2018)
This is a 2-day foundational course all investigative interviewers must complete. It covers multiple interview and interrogation techniques using the Wicklander-Zulawski's (WZ) globally recognised non-confrontational method. The training is conducted by a trainer who is a Certified Forensic Interviewers (CFI®)..
The non-confrontational approach to investigative interview and interrogation is more effective because it aligns with the progressive nature of how people communicate today, unlike the confrontational method, which remains relatively unchanged since the 1970s. The confrontational approach uses fear, aggression, intimidation and other emotional manipulation to get an admission.
The WZ Non-Confrontational Method encouraged the suspect to make a rational rather than an emotional decision to confess, This approach is recognized for the way it produces faster and more accurate results. In many cases, admissions are achieved without the suspect ever making a denial or protesting his innocence. The resulting confession often includes information far beyond the incident being investigated - something impossible with the confrontational approach.
The W-Z Non-Confrontational technique is a highly structured method that allows precise performance measurement and coaching. Supervisors can now confidently guide their officers through clearly defined sections of an interview and interrogation.
